Dodge has made more updates to the 2011 Caliber following on the heels of last year's interior redesign, which included more padding in the center armrest and door trim panels. The addition of new paint colors like
Redline 2 and Mango Tango introduce more fun into the lineup. Stability control has been added as a standard option for all but the Express model. Additionally, Sirius is now available on the optional navigation system. The Uptown model is offered with 18-inch wheels, while the Rush model offers red and blue stitching on the seats. On the Mainstreet trim level you'll find a new standard six-way power driver's seat. Dodge has also made the Caliber a standout by naming trim levels according to lifestyle.
Handling of the 2011 Dodge Caliber
The revised steering is a big improvement as are the re-tuned shocks and thicker rear anti-roll bar. The Caliber will have no problem absorbing the bumps and grooves associated with highway driving. The stability control available on all but the Express model is a welcome addition that families will approve of. The power and handling makes it a good car for getting around town too.
'11 Dodge Caliber Design
The styling of the Caliber has always been somewhat of a head turner. A cross between a wagon and a hatchback, the bold style includes a new large cross-hair grille, typical of Dodge, and large flared fenders at each of the four corners. The black rail running along the roofline to the base of the A-pillars creates what could be described as an optical illusion, making the car appear to sit lower than it does. In reality the 2011 Dodge Caliber sits a bit higher than most compact cars. Other exterior features include standard 15-inch steel wheels with silver-painted wheel covers, available 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, body-colored front and rear bumpers, and optional body-colored door handles.
Inside the 2011 Caliber
Most of the changes to the Caliber's cabin occurred in the 2010 model redesign. But both inside and out, the Caliber features a unique look and more utility than the traditional compact station wagon. So families looking
for the utility of a wagon can still feel hip while running around town. The upgrades to the interior now make the Caliber class competitive. The Caliber boasts a very large cargo area and back seat. This makes transporting equipment easy. It also has a 458-watt, nine-speaker Boston Acoustics audio system available. Add to this the available fold down speakers in the back and you're ready to entertain any outdoor gathering. The large gauges are easy to read and the climate and audio controls are easy to reach. Some unique features for the Caliber's interior are an available removable and rechargeable LED cargo light/flashlight located in the rear cargo area. The two-tiered glove box provides a handy Chill Zone where you can store four 20 ounce bottles to keep them cool. Other interior features include standard cloth seats and illuminated cupholder rings, optional upgraded cloth or leather-trimmed seats, manual door locks, mirrors and windows (standard), power mirrors, locks and windows (available) with speed-sensitive door locks, optional navigation/radio with Sirius Travel Link, and an available fold-flat front passenger seat. Or choose the available reclining back seats for additional passenger comfort. The Caliber is equipped with standard side curtain airbags, antilock brakes and a standard smart key, which immobilizes the engine should anyone attempt to break in - a very smart feature.
2011 Dodge Caliber Lineup
Trim levels are available in Express, Mainstreet, Uptown, Heat, and Rush. The base engine is a 2.0 liter, four cylinder yielding 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4-liter four cylinder that yields 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque is standard on the Rush. The Uptown offers the 2.0 liter engine standard with the option of getting the 2.4 liter. All come equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or buyers may select the optional continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Conclusions
